EcoFurn is currently donating 10% of all proceeds to Tree Aid, a UK-based charity focused on improving forestry conditions in Africa.

Kirkcaldy, Fife, November 05, 2009 – EcoFurn is currently donating 10% of all proceeds to Tree Aid, a UK-based charity focused on improving forestry conditions in Africa. EcoFurn is an oak bed and cabinet manufacturer that is firmly dedicated to environmental awareness; consequently, the company seeks to increase sustainable practices throughout the globe. Currently, organizations funded by Tree Aid support environmental projects in Burkina Faso, Ghana, Mali and Ethiopia.

Tree Aid was established in 1987 with the goal of using sustainable approaches to improve communities in Africa’s drylands. Since that time, it has raised over five million pounds and assisted more than 300,000 people. Tree Aid works with governmental agencies and organizations, local community organizations as well as local, national and international non-governmental organizations. The charity fosters development of on-the-ground training in Africa to improve quality of life through forestry. Its vision is to ‘see thriving and self-reliant communities in Africa’s drylands.”

In many African villages, trees are crucial for people’s survival and needs. Planting and protecting trees has a positive impact on the environment and helps to alleviate poverty in these regions. The work fostered by Tree Aid includes helping villagers to plant and protect trees and better control natural resources. Villagers also benefit from local financial enterprises set up to profit from products made from trees, like shea nut butter, baobab flour and tamarind. Fruits from trees are an important local food source. Tatus Azure from the Community Nursery and Family Woodlots Project in Ghana stated, I have planted 150 cashew trees, 40 mangoes, 45 dawadawa trees, 35 cocoa trees and a couple of orange and calabash trees. Now I can feed my family. The money I earn from the extra fruits is enough to send my kids to school too.”

EcoFurn is dedicated to providing high quality oak furniture. The company’s dedication towards improving forestry conditions in the Sahel of Africa, through its partnership with Tree Aid, also make it a highly eco-friendly company. It should come as no surprise that EcoFurn uses a highly sustainable approach when it comes to its own beds. The “A” grade timber used in all furniture comes from well-managed plantations. Trees on these plantations are cut and replanted every 15 years. It is EcoFurn’s commitment to the environment as well as to quality that makes this company a popular choice for oak beds and cabinets.

About Eco Furn:
Ecofurn is a bed manufacturer specializing in oak beds. The company donates 10% of all profits to TreeAid to encourage sustainable local practices in Africa. More information about EcoFurn and its commitment to Tree Aid can be found at http://oakbed.org.uk/eco-friendly-beds/

With UK manufacturing output at a national low, one Devon manufacturer is busy bucking the trend and doing it by keeping things local.

Ivybridge, Devon, November 05, 2009 — Luminati Waycon Ltd, which manufacture all their products from its base in Devon produce a range of stylish acrylic and perspex display units and furniture for home, office and retail use. Luminati Waycon reports an increase in manufacturing output of 10% in the second quarter of this year compared to a decrease in national output of 0.2 % during the same period.

Established in 1983 Luminati Waycon moved to premises near Ivybridge just over five years ago and in that time the business has more than doubled its turnover to £1.9 million. The acrylic manufacturer is now all set to achieve an increase in turnover this year by 17% despite the tough trading conditions. The encouraging news is thanks to a buoyant export market and growing UK market for its products.

Steve Senior, director of Luminati explains, “We are looking at growing export sales by 60% this year. The exchange rate has been favourable but we are also concentrating on developing innovative new products for specific market segments. Combine this with further investment in production technology earlier this year and the business is performing to plan.”

Luminati Waycon produce industrial and lifestyle products from; display cabinets and newspaper stands to top quality desk top and lounge room furniture. The broad product range has obviously been beneficial during the economic crisis, but Luminati has been busy securing new markets for their products and developing new product ranges. One new burgeoning market for Luminati this year has been established within the car show rooms despite the state of the car industry.

Steve Senior continues “We are supplying bespoke display units to three of the worlds” top 20 car manufacturers and to one F1 race team. Some of these orders have been within the UK and increasingly in Europe.

Despite a bulging order book, Luminati tries hard not to source manufactured goods from the Far East ” focusing instead on manufacturing ethically in the UK. “We employ 30 people and the community which we live and work in is important to us. We want to be manufacturing here.” says Steve Senior. “We source the majority of our supplies and raw materials locally from ethical suppliers with just 10 percent of raw materials originating from outside of Europe”.

To celebrate this fact the business has just launched a “proudly made in the UK” logo which now appears on all their products.

Steve Senior explains: “We have built the company up based on quality standards combined with a highly skilled workforce. We offer innovative design and products of exceptional quality and bespoke to our customer’s requirements. Our niche is concentrating on shorter production runs. I believe British manufacturers, particularly SME’s, are creative, flexible and reactive to suppliers needs and now, more than ever, it’s important to support them. The UK economy needs to focus on exporting goods to strengthen the economy and reduce importing products by sourcing materials locally.”

The current financial situation forced Luminati to look at manufacturing processes to reduce costs and increase productivity. Meanwhile they have increased expenditure on specific marketing disciplines and market research into new potential markets. A delegation to the Middle East is planned for November and just like the diamond polish finish on many of their products the future is looking bright.

The lunchtime programme recently broadcast a feature on the effect of the credit crunch on the diamond industry, inviting a panel of leading names in the sector to partake in the discussion, one of which was Carol Marlow, on behalf Marlows Certified Diamonds.

Joining the discussion were some of the most recognised players in the diamond market including Harry Levy, one of the UK’s most eminent diamond dealers, and Michael Rappaport, the creator of the globally recognised diamond price list, who participated in the show live from New York.

“My family has been trading in diamonds in Birmingham for over three generations, and we have a superb reputation in the Midlands region, but this has taken our standing to a whole new level,” says Carol Marlow of Marlows Certified Diamonds. “It was an honour to be asked to participate and it was a proud moment in the company’s history, as our reputation and experience as a prestigious diamond dealer was recognised on a national platform.”

Peternity.com offers free online pet memorials where pet owners can post heartfelt tributes to their pets.

Brea, CA, November 25, 2009 — For those who have lost their pets recently or in the distant past, the holidays can evoke many memories of their pets and can become a very emotional time. According to pet loss expert Colleen Mihelich, rather than pushing these feelings away, people can grieve and remember their pets in a way that celebrates and pays tribute to their lives.

“Allow the bond you shared, cherished memories and love for your departed pet to guide you toward your individual method of remembrance,” says Mihelich, founder of Peternity.com, an online community designed to help celebrate the life and friendship of our pets.

Peternity.com offers free online pet memorials where pet owners can post heartfelt tributes to their pets. The website also offers pet loss support, information and unique artisan crafted pet memorial products such as pet grave markers, pet dog and cat urns, custom pet art, pet headstones, and much more.

Mihelich, who lost her mother to breast cancer when she was four years old and several pets since then, has found healthy ways to manage her grief. During this holiday season of giving gifts and thanks, Peternity has launched a new program whereby customers can donate 10% of the profits from their purchase to a struggling animal rescue or shelter of their choice. Peternity features their monthly choice of struggling rescue or shelter that they donate to, on their homepage.

For advice on dealing with the loss of a pet during the holidays, Mihelich provides these pet loss tips:

* Be sure to spend the holiday with loved ones with you whom you can be yourself. It’s best not to be alone but it’s lso
important to be able to cry or sit quietly if necessary.
* Choose the book that’s helped you through your grieving process most and write a dedication in the inside cover to your pet.
Donate the book to your library.
* During this holiday season, instead of pushing aside the painful emotions that you’re feeling stuck in, try allowing yourself
to acknowledge the way you feel. Minimize your difficult feelings and their power over you by expressing them. Write a letter
from the heart to your pet, telling him all the things you miss about him and how grateful you are for all the memories and
friendship that he so generously gave.
* During your holiday meal, place a special candle on your table and light it in memory of your pet. She will be with you in
spirit and will still be included in your holiday celebration.
* Volunteer at an animal rescue or shelter. It always lifts our spirits when we’re grieving to take the focus off of ourselves
and give to others who are in need.

Colleen Mihelich is a pet loss expert who has helped thousands of pet owners celebrate and honor the love they share with their pets. She is also the founder of www.Peternity.com, an organization dedicated to paying tribute to the lives of our pets – living and deceased. Mihelich has authored numerous articles dealing with pet loss and offers online resources designed to provide pet loss support for the grieving pet owner. Peternity also provides artisan crafted pet memorial products – pet urns, pet memorial stones and a wide variety of pet memorial art.

New for the iPhone, the XShot iPhone Case features built-in tripod compatibility that makes it easier than ever to put yourself in the pictures that you snap and share while on the go.

Santa Barbara, CA, October 16, 2009 — With the growing popularity of camera phones and the rise of social networking, taking and sharing photos while on-the-go has never been easier. While the iPhone 3GS features a great 3-megapixel camera and camcorder, iPhone users still face the age-old problem of trying to take a photo or shoot a video while including themselves in the shot.

Fortunately, the makers of XShot have come up with a solution for this with the multipurpose iPhone case and built-in universal tripod adapter. The mount fits any standard tripods and monopods, making it easier than ever to put yourself in the pictures and videos you capture and share.

“Being able to share your experiences instantaneously is part of the mobile revolution, which is why we are seeing devices like the iPhone surpass digital cameras in popularity on photo sharing sites like Flickr and YouTube,” said Michael Daoud, co-founder of XShot, LLC. “While the iPhone 3G makes it possible to always have a camera and video recorder in your pocket, we know there are times when you want to photograph yourself with the iPhone using an XShot or tripod but couldn’t – now you can because our case allows you to do just that!”

Unlike other iPhone tripod adapters, the tripod mount is conveniently built into the XShot iPhone Case, which simply fits around your iPhone 3G or 3GS so you don’t have to carry an extra adapter around with you. The XShot iPhone Case can also be used in combination with the XShot camera extender, which attaches to any compact digital camera or hand-held video recorder to make it possible for people to photograph and film themselves anywhere, without having to do the awkward single-arm stretch!

The XShot iPhone Case retails for $29.95 and will be available in November, 2009 on www.xshot.com.

“We are very excited about extending the capabilities of the iPhone, which is one of the most photo-friendly phones today,” Daoud said. “It’s not as easy to upload pictures for sharing directly from most digital cameras as it is from the iPhone, so I am excited that this product will create additional possibilities for both fans of the XShot as well as anyone who has ever wanted to do more with their iPhone camera. The Apple store has great timer apps to make your pictures so easy with a tripod or XShot”

About XShot LLC:
XShot LLC is a leading innovator in the camera accessory market. XShot produces the popular XShot 2.0, a telescopic camera extender that attaches to any compact digital camera or hand-held video camera (including the Flip) so that the photographer can be part of picture too. Everyday photographers no longer have to try and stretch their arms as far as possible to get a picture, let alone capture the background. The XShot 2.0 extends over 3 feet so you can be in the picture and closes to 9 inches to fit easily in a pocket or purse. The digital camera accessory has become popular with travelers, social media users, honeymooners, outdoor lovers, families, and digital scrapbook fans.

The XShot and XShot iPhone Case are available online at http://www.xshot.com

New outdoor clothing company Looptworks introduces founders Gary Peck, Scott Hamlin and Jim Stutts, the three visionaries behind the unique “upcycled” apparel company which is creating socially responsible designs from pre-consumer excess materials. Their premier collection offers a selection of men’s and women’s activewear– including women’s skirts, graphic t-shirts and shorts, t-shirts and hoodies for men. All of these eco fashions can be found on their website, Looptworks.com

Portland, OR, October 09, 2009 — Looptworks, a ground-breaking online apparel and accessories company that repurposes abandoned materials into meaningful, long-lasting and limited-edition products, introduces the team behind the seams of their upcycled clothing. Gary Peck and Scott Hamlin will re-use the world’s pre-consumer excess, and through Looptworks aims to rid the world of waste while inspiring a generation to reduce their impact on the planet.

Gary Peck
As a co-founder of Looptworks, Gary Peck is responsible for the product creation process. This role involves the design, development and sourcing of all Looptworks products.

“I feel as if my past career stops have prepared me perfectly to help close the loop on textile manufacturing through Looptworks, ( http://www.looptworks.com/about.html ),” said Peck. “I’ve worked for multi-national sports apparel companies where I learned the ins and outs of supply chain management and the production process. I’m also a entrepreneur serving currently as the CEO of The S Group, a product design, innovation and sourcing company which I founded in 2000.”

Peck started his career in 1981 with Nike and held positions as the director of Asian textiles and product development, and then as director of design and development. He led the commercialization of the first muscle tights and next-to-skin performance apparel. Peck launched the Jordan line, Athletics West Salazar line, and John McEnroe line which laid the foundation to leverage merchandise through sports marketing.

In 1988, Peck joined adidas AG to lead global design and development in Herzogenaurach, Germany as the Director of Apparel Design and Development. Later, he returned to the United States as managing director of adidas America apparel. His efforts drove sales from $60 million to $655 million while increasing product margin by 12 percent and doubling inventory returns.

Born in Capetown, South Africa, Peck studied in the U.S. and earned his bachelor’s of textile engineering degree at the Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science. He later attended the University of Oregon to get his master’s in business administration.

Scott Hamlin
Scott Hamlin manages the day to day business at Looptworks, and is involved in the product creation process, web content creation, strategic planning, finance and operations. An outdoor enthusiast with a passion for sustainability, Hamlin is excited to turn traditional business notions inside-out, integrating environmental, social and economic factors into the company of Looptworks. To do that, he will call on his wide range of expertise in innovative product creation, brand building, and overall business leadership.

“I’m enjoy partnering with all kinds of talented and creative minds to find innovative solutions to the challenges of excess,” said Hamlin. “The inception of Looptworks has been a collaborative effort among many artists in the fields of photography, graphic design, web design, videography, apparel design, sourcing, logistics and operations.” An excellent example of this collaboration is a Looptworks promotional video which can be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l3IOQVbmmJY

Hamlin started his career with adidas AG in 1993, in product creation and innovation, before moving abroad as the director of sales and marketing for adidas Argentina, and later as president and managing director of adidas Brazil. Hamlin oversaw all aspects of the business and realized more than 60 percent increases in revenue and a return to profitability in both countries.

In 2005, he joined Royal Robbins as the global director of product where he oversaw the design, development, product marketing and sourcing efforts of a brand that experienced significant growth and was acquired twice during his time there.

Hamlin is a native Oregonian and earned his BA in Journalism and Advertising from the University of Oregon. He is an active surfer, cyclist, climber, snowboarder and runner.

If you own and operate a Windows Operating System then chances are your computer came factory installed with Microsoft Word or another Word Professional program from Microsoft. 95% of all computers manufactured by Microsoft come equipped with Microsoft Word. However, this program is generally attached with limitations. From the moment you begin using this program it generally will begin what is known as a ‘free trial period.’ During this free trial period you are free to use the program and all of the programs featured are unlocked.

However, at the end of the free trial period which could be 30 days, 60 days or 90 days, the Microsoft Word program will fail to operate. Instead you will be given directions on how you can now purchase the program you have come to love. The problem with this is two-fold. Firstly, the cost of all Word Professional programs like Word and Excel are rather expensive. You will most likely have to fork over a couple of hundred dollars in order to unlock these programs and begin using them again.

The second problem is that most people see no other option but to purchase these programs. During the trial period people generally become so used to using the programs that they can’t even imagine using another program. This is all part of Microsoft’s ploy. Microsoft is all about making money. They realize that if they can hook you in with their free trial that there is a 75% chance that you will purchase the product at the end of the trial.
