Formerly Called Washington Square, Imperial Admits Charging Customers 18-20% Interest Rates Per Year

Boynton Beach, FL, October 02, 2010 — In a recent government filing, Imperial Funding admitted that interest rates charged to its customers average 17% per year, well above the industry averages. These rates put Imperial Funding – formerly marketed as “Washington Square Structured Settlements” – charging at the high end of the structured settlement factoring industry. Imperial’s August 12, 2010 filing was made with the federal government.

Upon questioning, Deborah Benaim, a twenty-year industry veteran and current Senior Vice President for Imperial, asserted that Imperial’s interest rates are even higher than reported, “averaging 18-20% per year”. This places Imperial among the most costly of factoring companies in the industry, offering its customers the least value. Industry speculation is that the new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau will have a dramatic, adverse impact on this industry.

According to a knowledgeable industry participant, these high discount rates cannot continue. As both sellers and courts become more aware of the financial abuse at the hands of certain factoring companies, they will either go out of business or will be forced to drastically reduce their rates. “Smart customers shop rates. Many judges question customers to ensure that they are getting a fair deal by requiring evidence of competitive shopping,” commented Stewart Feldman, an attorney long active in the industry throughout the U.S. Feldman cited RSL Funding and Henderson Receivables as offering among the best rates in the industry, with Peachtree and Imperial offering among the least value. “It’s not a surprise that the Imperial staff came from Peachtree. They know how to hammer customers,” commented Feldman.

When questioned in a pending legal proceeding as to how Imperial can offer such little value to its customers, Imperial’s Senior Vice President, Benaim, explained that Imperial spends upwards of $5,000,000.00 in marketing costs a year, including almost $4,000,000.00 on television advertising. According to an industry source, it is well known that customers that respond to television ads tend not to competitively shop, resulting in these customers receiving among the lowest prices paid. According to Benaim and the government filing, each customer, on average, bears $14,000.00 in marketing costs. One industry analyst figures that a customer not bearing this cost would receive on the average a full one-third more money up-front.

Imperial’s conduct has not gone unnoticed. In a recent court decision, the New York Supreme Court wrote that Imperial’s interest rates were “neither fair nor reasonable taking into account the actual amount [the customer] would be receiving. [The customer] would be receiving less than 1/3rd of the discounted present value . . . after legal fees and administrative fees”.

Things may be changing. In recent years, RSL Funding and Henderson Receivables have offered customers a better alternative. RSL informs customers that are the victim of particularly egregious charges from Imperial that there is an alternative and makes competitive bids for the purchase of their future payments. “We’ve offered customers as much of $50,000.00 more than competitors for the same future payments,” commented James Kelly, an RSL Funding’s Senior Account Executive. RSL’s Senior Account Executive, Derek Kopacz expressed, “When my customer received our offer of $35,000.00 more than Peachtree for the same future payments, he was ecstatic. When he received our check a few weeks later, I became his best friend. He couldn’t believe how badly he was being taken advantage of by Peachtree Settlement Funding.” Typically, RSL acquires payments free of fees and costs imposed on customers.

Attorneys for Peachtree and Imperial were asked for comments and corrections but offered no reply.

For further information, contact the Structured Settlement Institute (SSI), a not-for-profit organization established to educate sellers of structured settlements regarding fair and equitable practices among providers of structured settlement transfers.

San Diego, CA, October 02, 2010 — Symbolic Collection announced today Singer has been named Botanical Artist in Residence during 2010 at the Huntington Botanical Garden in Pasadena and will be recognized during a reception on October 18. In addition to this honor, Dr. Singer has created a set of images exclusively for the Huntington known as the Huntington 100 or the H100. Prints from that series will be available exclusively by Symbolic Collection.

A truly eccentric artist, Singer has an eye for capturing nature with his Hasselblad digital camera to produce images that look like the product of old master painters of the 1600s. Singer is recipient of the Linnaeus silver medal and has been recognized for marrying art and science. He became the first photographer in history and fourth American to earn this award in its 104 year history. Singer is the recipient of a Hasselblad Foundation International Award in Photography, the photographer’s equivalent of the Nobel Prize.

Known for his exquisite large-scale prints in Botanica Magnifica, a five-volume set of books that feature single blooms of 250 of the world’s rarest plants created and presented only for the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C.

“Just as the finest classical painter attempted to make his brush stroke invisible, I attempt to capture these botanical specimens with a clarity and humility becoming an instrument serving a higher force,” said Singer. “Many of the most unusual species seen in Botanica Magnifica seem to be alien life forms but really are true treasures of our home planet.”

In September 2009, Singer joined with Dr. Kress and Hachadourian to create a collaborative book called Botanica Magnifica: Portraits of the World’s Most Extraordinary Flowers and Plants (Abbeville Press, September 2009). The book features photographs by Singer and text by Dr. Kress and Hachadourian. Please click here to see to an interview from CBS National News: http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=4937453n

A private, nonprofit institution, The Huntington was founded in 1919 by Henry E. Huntington, an exceptional businessman who built a financial empire that included railroad companies, utilities, and real estate holdings in Southern California.
Huntington was also a man of vision – with a special interest in books, art, and gardens. During his lifetime, he amassed the core of one of the finest research libraries in the world, established a splendid art collection, and created an array of botanical gardens with plants from a geographic range spanning the globe.

These three distinct facets of The Huntington are linked by a devotion to research, education, and beauty. For more information, please visit www.huntington.org The Huntington is located at 1151 Oxford Road, San Marino, CA 91108, near Pasadena, California.

Congressman David Dreier will be getting a happy ending thanks to a new Musical Spoof produced by the same group that created The Golden Gays. This one features a group of gay activists infiltrating the conservative suburbs where the fictitious Senator Bavid Breier lives. To fit in, they disguise themselves as the only average Americans they can think of … The Bundys.

Los Angeles, CA, October 06, 2010 — Fairies With Children (The Yes on hate Episode) opens October 22nd at the Meta Theatre on Melrose. The show is a drag musical spoof of the popular 90s sitcom. A group of gay activists move to the suburbs disguised as the famous American sitcom family to better understand conservatives. Unknowingly, they find a foreclosed upon home right next door to Senator Bavid Breier and his live-in … Assistant. The character of Senator Bavid Breier is loosely based on Congressmen David Dreier, once a Republican favorite until he was ousted from his closet by Mike Rogers on his BlogActive website and in the movie “Outraged”. A portion of each ticket will go to the Human Rights Campaign. More information can be found at www.fairieswithchildren.com

According to writer John Trapper, “the character is actually a composite of several closeted hypocrites we’ve seen over the last several years.” Trapper says he spent a lot of time imagining how painful that it must be for both Dreier and his Chief of Staff living a life that is not only a lie, but spent working against their own freedoms (as Dreier has a long record of anti gay votes). “In the show, we look inside the mind of Brad Smith through our character Chad the Assistant, who doubles as Marcy Darcy for the purposes of keeping their close relationship a secret. In our story, Chad loves Bavid so much that he does anything for him, but really dreams of a complete fulfilling life out of the closet.”

Trapper surprisingly has a lot of positive things to say about Dreier, “he is a very charismatic Politician, nice to look at, and very intelligent. It is my greatest hope that he will soon walk the path of Ken Mehlman and come out where he can do some good for the whole community. I believe if he did come out, and did so in the right way, he’d still be elected and a great asset to our community … of course he’d have to start voting differently.”

Dreier isn’t the only one to get spoofed in this show. Theatre goers will get to see and hear about their favorite Fox News personalities during a musical tribute called “Good Morning Fox and Friends” sung by Donna Pieroni one of the original fat women from the TV series Married With Children. In this show, she plays an over zealous tea party member who “doesn’t need friends cause she has the whole gang at Fox News”. In the off chance Theatre goers may have forgotten some of the famous hypocritical and stupid conservative quotes from recent years, they’ll get some of those in this show too.

WideStance Productions was founded to bring gay content in a way that people can get a peek into a world they wouldn’t otherwise see. “We try to keep them too busy laughing to notice they’re being taught tolerance”. The troupe’s last production “The Golden Gays” was a hit in Los Angeles and even traveled to the home of the famous foursome South Beach Florida.

This FUN-raiser is ranked as one of the top three fundraisers for Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, San Diego

San Diego, CA, October 06, 2010 — The 24-hour Survivor Crop for the Cure is back to raise funds for breast cancer awareness and research through Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, San Diego. Attendees will be crafting and scrapbooking beginning at 9:00 a.m. on October 16 to 9:00 a.m. on October 17. Sponsored by North County-based Ever After Scrapbooks, this fun-filled event is held at Ever After Scrapbooks and The Creekview Plaza, located just behind the store. Scrapbooking will officially kickoff at noon!

This year, the Survivor Crop organizers have set a goal of raising $70,000 by adding additional fundraising opportunities, including a silent auction. Each attendee is required to make a minimum $125 donation to Komen San Diego, but the passionate participants are also given incentives to compete for Ultimate Survivor (highest fundraiser) individually and as a team. With the fun-raising meter rising by the hour, over $21,000 has been raised so far. This is the second year that participants have the capability to raise funds online, so anyone, anywhere, anytime can conveniently contribute to support a participant. Also, the event will feature the Ever After Scrapbooks’ Think Pink Silent Auction, which includes products donated by Sony and includes a variety of crafting materials.

This unique event, which brings together crafters of all types, but especially scrapbookers and paper crafters with a common interest in helping Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, San Diego in its mission to eradicate breast cancer forever, has raised more than $400,000 since its inception in 2001.

“Breast cancer affects women in their most productive years. With current statistics suggesting that one in eight women will develop breast cancer, it is more important than ever to raise awareness and do everything we can to help find the cure,” said Camille Akin, founder of Ever After Scrapbooks. “We are thrilled that we can continue to support Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, San Diego in its efforts during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. We are proud that our fun event is not only a great opportunity for people to gather and share their passion for scrapbooking, but also an impactful contribution to the fight against a disease that has touched so many lives.”

As more and more people become involved in this hobby many people have started participating in crops. A crop can best be described as something of a quilting bee in which hobbyists come together to scrapbook, share tools and ideas, as well as to socialize and have fun. Crops can last from a few hours, to a full weekend, or even a full week aboard a cruise ship.

To register for the 2010 Survivor Crop or for more information on donating to the event, please visit www.survivorcrop.com , www.komensandiego.org, or www.everafterscrapbooks.com.

About Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, San Diego
Since its inception in 1995, $8.5 million has been given to local organizations that provide breast cancer education, screening, diagnostics, treatment and patient support for the uninsured or underinsured in San Diego County. Seventy-five percent of every dollar raised through Affiliate-sponsored events stays right here in San Diego County to fund free diagnostic mammograms, treatment and services for uninsured and underinsured women and their families. The remaining 25 percent funds international breast cancer research. In fact, next to the U.S. government, Susan G. Komen for the Cure® is the largest funder of breast cancer research in the world. For more information, please visit www.komensandiego.org.

Why is the Race for the Cure® so important to San Diego County?
Since launching the breast cancer movement more than 30 years ago, Komen for the Cure has transformed the culture – bringing breast cancer out of the closet – changing the way the world talks about and treats this devastating disease. During the journey, it was often controversial and considered inappropriate to discuss diseases of the breast openly. We’ve come a long way – but we face new challenges. Here in San Diego County, many underserved women find breast cancer at a later and more aggressive stage and have a higher mortality rate. Still others have lost their jobs and can’t afford medical insurance. All of this is compounded by the California state budget crisis which forced the closure of the only free mammogram program open to women in this state. So, we’re doubling our efforts here at Komen San Diego to do what we can to raise additional funds.

Did you know?
One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime.
The most significant risk factors are being a female and getting older.
Breast cancer doesn’t discriminate.
Breast cancer typically strikes women during their most productive years, both professionally and personally.
Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in U.S. women ages 40-59.
Men can get breast cancer, too. One percent of breast cancer diagnosis will be in male patients.

The Woodlands, TX, October 06, 2010 — The United States GIS Data Repository (USGDR), a not-for-profit organization dedicated to “Making Public Data Public”, has partnered with TractBuilder to provide Central Appraisal Districts and certain other county-level GIS programs free licenses of the TractBuilder Tools for ArcGIS, a set of tools counties can use to map polygons and lines according to legal descriptions.

Many government departments are feeling the economic crunch, and there are several documented cases where a GIS has helped counties to plan, zone, and tax with increased efficiency, helping these departments to perform exceptionally, even in a downturn. Kyle Souza, a Director of the USGDR, explains “We are here to help. Counties, large and small, all over the country, have to re-evaluate their budgets. Let us help you. Our partnership with TractBuilder means free software, FREE! Even if you are under contract with another vendor, try this software at no cost, and see how much time and money it can save you. Some counties have already realized the merits of these tools and are happily using them to create their parcel layers.”

Run entirely off donations, the USGDR hosts GIS data for different government organizations at no cost. We would be happy to host yours as well. For details on the TractBuilder Tools Offer or hosting, or to receive your free software, e-mail info@usgdr.org.

Here is a summary of the tools being offered:

1. Integrated Attribute Entry
2. Text-to-Polygon Conversion
3. Curve calls (Delta, Chord, Arc Length; with or without tangents)
4. XY/Lat Lon calls (handles multiple projections in a single layer)
5. Ability to set a distance factor and offset angle per feature or per point.

Levi & Korsinsky is investigating the Board of Directors of Capital Gold Corporation for possible breaches of fiduciary duty and other violations of state law in connection with their attempt to sell the Company to Gammon Gold, Inc.

New York, NY, October 06, 2010 — Levi & Korsinsky is investigating the Board of Directors of Capital Gold Corporation (“Capital Gold” or the “Company”) (AMEX: CGC) for possible breaches of fiduciary duty and other violations of state law in connection with their attempt to sell the Company to Gammon Gold, Inc. (“Gammon Gold”) (NYSE: GRS). Under the terms of the transaction, each common share of Capital Gold will be exchanged for 0.5209 common shares of Gammon Gold and a cash payment in the amount of $0.79 per share. The total consideration for the purchase of 100% of the fully diluted in-the-money shares of Capital Gold is approximately $288 million or $4.57 per Capital Gold share based on Gammon Gold’s closing price on September 24, 2010. Click here to learn how to join the action: http://www.zlk.com/capitalgold-cgc.html, or call: 877-363-5972.

The investigation concerns whether the Capital Gold Board of Directors breached their fiduciary duties to Capital Gold stockholders by failing to adequately shop the Company before entering into this transaction and whether Gammon Gold is underpaying for Capital Gold shares, thus unlawfully harming Capital Gold stockholders. In particular, at least one analyst set a price target for Capital Gold stock at $8.74 per share.
